Hot BC summer days call for cool treats. Here's a simple recipe for low-dose cannabis popsicles — perfect for a chill afternoon in the backyard.
BC summers are something else. When the temperature climbs into the 30s and your patio feels like a pizza oven, sometimes the best move is a popsicle in the shade. Add a little cannabis and you've got an adults-only treat worth waiting for.
Here's a simple Hive Cannabis recipe — low-dose, refreshing, and surprisingly easy.
Important: Dose First
This recipe makes 8 popsicles at roughly 5 mg THC each, meaning you need 40 mg total THC in the liquid mixture. We'll use a cannabis tincture because it incorporates cleanly into a liquid base.
To get 40 mg total, look at your tincture's label. If your tincture is 30 mg/mL, you'd use roughly 1.3 mL. Adjust based on your product.
If you want 2.5 mg per popsicle, halve the cannabis. If you want stronger, double it — but we genuinely recommend keeping summer popsicles on the lower end, especially if you're in the sun. Heat plus a strong edible plus dehydration is not a great combo.
Ingredients (Makes 8 Popsicles)
- 2 cups fresh fruit (strawberries, peaches, mango, or BC blueberries are amazing) - 1 cup coconut water or filtered water - 2 to 3 tbsp maple syrup or honey (to taste) - 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice - Pinch of sea salt - Cannabis tincture to your target dose (see above)
Equipment
- Blender - Popsicle mold (8-cavity) - Popsicle sticks - Small whisk
Instructions
1. Blend the base. Combine the fruit, coconut water, maple syrup, lemon juice, and salt in a blender. Blend until smooth. 2. Taste. Adjust sweetness with more maple syrup if needed. Remember — flavours dull slightly when frozen, so it should taste *slightly* sweeter than perfect. 3. Add the tincture. Whisk in the measured cannabis tincture until fully combined. Whisk thoroughly — even distribution is critical so each popsicle has roughly the same dose. 4. Fill the mold. Pour the mixture into your popsicle mold, leaving a small gap at the top for expansion. 5. Insert sticks. Add popsicle sticks (some molds have built-in handles). 6. Freeze. Freeze for at least 6 hours, ideally overnight. 7. Release. Run the mold under warm water for 10 to 15 seconds to release the popsicles.
Serving and Storage
- Wrap individual popsicles in parchment paper and store in a freezer-safe bag. - Label clearly with "CANNABIS — ADULTS ONLY" and the dose per popsicle. - Keep in the freezer; they'll be best within 1 to 2 months.
Patio Day Dosing Tips
- Start with one. Edibles take 30 to 90 minutes to hit and last several hours. - Hydrate. Water before, during, and after. - Stay in the shade for at least the first hour or two. - Eat real food too. Don't treat a popsicle as a substitute for lunch. - Never drive after eating an infused popsicle.
Variations
- Tropical: mango + pineapple + lime - Berry: mixed BC berries + lemon - Creamy: coconut milk + banana + a little vanilla - CBD version: swap the THC tincture for a CBD tincture (no intoxication, just a chill treat)
